Three Ways to Be Your Own Boss Right Now

small business marketingMany of us dream of ditching our corporate jobs and becoming our own bosses – having the freedom to do what we want, when we want without anyone telling us what step to take next. For some individuals, this dream is one that simply does not go away, and often this is a sign of those who are true entrepreneurs. While starting a business and being your own boss may be in your DNA, what if you haven’t had a revelation about what you would sell or do for consumers? What if you do not have the often times hundreds of thousands of dollars in start-up money to get a business off the ground?

If you’re itching to do something big on your own, don’t let your lack of resources hold you back – here are three simple ways you can become your own boss without having to deal with all the hassles.

Open a Franchise

When we think of buying into a franchise, we often imagine the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars that it would take to buy into a popular fast food restaurant or retail shop. Before giving up on this dream, it is important to know there are plenty of franchises out there that can be opened for less than $50,000 and be started up and running in a fraction of the time. For example, some janitorial services franchises can be started with a small investment starting at about $4,000.

Become an Agent

Becoming an agent for a brand that already exists is another great way to get into the entrepreneurial spirit. Insurance agents, real estate agents, and really anything else you can think of are individuals who work for established companies while also building a business of their very own. The best part about taking this route is that the “parent” company often provides individuals with product training and also play a large role in helping with market research, advertising efforts (whether social media or print materials like brochures or business cards), and back-end support.

Freelance

For individuals with a skill that can be sold as a service, there is a great opportunity to become a freelancer or consultant. From being a makeup artist, web design, writer, accountant, or computer engineer and really anything in between, individuals who have the vision and drive can very easily create and grow a business of their very own. Freelancers and consultants are often referred to as “independent contractors” in the business world, which by definition means you own a business!
